Hernández Zelaya Family - Mountain Valley Team - July 2025 Build

Jose & his wife Iris have been married for 12 years. They have two beautiful daughters; Genesis Jasmine (12) and Abigail (3). Genesis is in 8th grade, and she is an excellent student with very good character, thanks to her mother, Iris, who has dedicated herself to raising them in the best way. Jose & Iris both moved with their parents to the island of Roatan in search of employment opportunities, hoping to improve their lives, since on the mainland the living conditions are extremely poor. They have been Christians for 10 years; they actively serve in their church and are people of great faith. Jose currently works in tourist services on the days that the cruise ship comes to the island. His salary is approximately $140 a week. With this salary he has to meet the needs of his family such as education, food, and all the basic things they need. However, this couple was blessed because a friend gave them the opportunity to have a piece of land in their name at a low cost and allowed them to pay for it little by little. The land is located in the community of Cañaveral where they have a temporary house. This house is small and is not in good condition, resulting in flooding when it rains. Jose is originally from San Manuel, Cortes and moved in with his mother when he was 4 years old. She raised him as a single mother. She sold food on the streets with Jose from a very early age. At the age of 13, Jose began working in construction to help his mother when she became sick and could no longer work, and for this reason Jose was unable to finish his studies. Iris is originally from Colon. She was raised by Mrs. Domicilia Zelaya, her adoptive mother Iris was abandoned by her mother and father and this made her live with anger and resentment until she met Jesus and was able to forgive her parents. Iris has three older children from her first marriage from which she had to flee because she was physically and psychologically abused. Currently Iris is a housewife and is dedicated to her two youngest daughters. She is a very happy and loving woman with her family and her only wish is to be able to provide a safe home for her little girls.
