Lagos Family

Alejandra is a single mom. She was born in the mainland Honduras, and she moved to Roatán when she was just 9 years old when her mother decided to send her and her brother to live with their grandma. Alejandra and her family lived in a very dangerous area in the mainland. Alejandra’s mom was a single mom and her work days were very long, which forced her to make such a hard decision to send her children to live elsewhere so they would be able to attend school. Alejandra enjoyed a happychildhood. She studied, lived with her grandma, and she would travel in December to visit her mom. Unfortunately, Alejandra’s mom had uterine cancer, and she passed away when Alejandra was 12 years old. Alejandra’s dad abandoned her and her brother when they were very little; he never helped them economically. After her mom passed away, Alejandra and her brother had no other choice but to stay in their grandma’s house. After Alejandra’s mom passed away, her grandma started treating them differently. She wasn’t as nice as she used to be and she started physically abusing her and her brother. Alejandra didn’t want to go through more abuse, so she decided to start working when she was 15 years old. She had a hard time during her teenage years. She felt she didn’t want to live anymore after losing her mom, but her brother was her reason to keep living. Alejandra has 3 children: Ian (10) is in 4th grade, Hannen (8) is in 3rd grade and Sofia is 2 months old. Once she had her 1st child, Alejandra had another great reason to keep living and working as hard as she could. Alejandra has always looked for ways to feed and support her children. Alejandra owns a piece of land and dreams of someday owning a house where she can raise her children and give them a more stable life than the one she had growing up. Let’s build a home for Alejandra and her family. Let’s make her dream of a home come true. We can do it together!
