Sarmientos Fuentes Family
Ada was just 13 years old when she moved to Roatán after her mom passed away to start working alongside her sister. She was just 16 years old when she met her 1st husband. After 7 years of marriage, her husband started drinking alcohol and started physically abusing her. She couldn’t leave her husband because she didn’t have a place to go, and she didn’t have a permanent salary to support her children. After 12 years of marriage, she got a permanent job, and she decided to leave her husband to start a new life. Unfortunately, separating from him didn’t stop her ex husband’s physical abuse. He would always find her wherever she was renting, and he would threaten her and would try to physically abuse her. She filed a report at the police station, and it wasn't until then that he stopped bothering her and her children. Ada has 3 children: Enrique (21), Gael (12) and Luis (8). Enrique was just 10 years old and Gael was only 11 months when Ada separated from her 1st husband. Ada started working at the hospital 11 years ago and has been renting a place for her family to live since then. Unfortunately, Enrique couldn’t finish his studies because Ada at that time couldn’t afford to send him to school. She barely made enough money to pay for rent and buy food. Enrique started working when he was just 11 years old. Ada used to make donuts and Enrique would go out in their neighborhood to sell them so they could earn a little bit of extra income for their home expenses. Enrique was 14 years old when he started working for his aunt selling at a vegetable stand until he had the opportunity to get a formal job at 18 years old. Enrique is already married, but he still supports his mom and siblings economically a little bit once in a while. Four years after her divorce, she met Luis’s father. Unfortunately, he abandoned her when she was still pregnant. Luis never met his dad and has never received any economic help from him. Ada has dreamed for many years of a strong and comfortable place for her children to live in, a place they can call home. She needs our helping hand. Let’s be part of her dream. Let’s build a home for this hardworking mother and her beautiful children.
