José and Eleonor have 2 beautiful children: Taylor is 4 years old and Taylanie is 1 year old. José was born in the mainland of Honduras. He moved to Roatán 14 years ago for 2 main reasons: safety and better job opportunities. José and his family lived in a very dangerous area where. they didn’t feel safe enough to continue living there. José left home to begin working when he was 18 years old. Currently, José works for a fast food restaurant as a cook for about 1 year; he makes around $20 per day. Eleonor was born in Roatán. Her parents separated when she was just 2 years old. Due to the difficult situation, Eleonor’s mom did everything she could as a single mom to raise, support, and feed her 4 children. After her divorce, Eleonor’s mom started cooking and selling food for her and her children to survive, however, she was not making enough by selling food to provide for her children, so she started working other different jobs, leaving Eleanor and her siblings home alone. Eleanor was 11 years old when she had to start working in order to help her mom. She started working making and selling bracelets to the tourists, and she would also sell lemons and nanche/hogberry. Shortly afterwards, they faced a major tragedy when the home that her mom rented for many years burned down. Eleonor worked not only to help her mom and siblings, but also to pay for her studies. Eleanor was able to get another job in order to complete her studies through the 12th grade and get a degree in finances. Currently, Eleanor works for a security company as a secretary; she makes around $24 per day. Eleanor says during her childhood, her family on both the maternal and paternal sides were never united or willing to help or support each other. Eleanor says it was very frustrating and difficult to be renting all the time, so currently, they live in a small room that Eleanor’s grandma has underneath her house. However, it’s a room that is not in good condition due to all the dust and water leaking that comes from upstairs. The Lopéz Ebanks family are paying for a piece of land to someday build a strong, secure and comfortable place for them and their children to live and enjoy each day. They dream of providing a safer and more stable life for their children than the one they had growing up. Let's be a helping hand for this beautiful family. Let's build a home for them!
